The BBSRC has pulled forward its next deadline, from 14 July to the 23 June 2010. No indication has been given as to the reason for this, and when I called to ask the BBSRC there was no clear explanation on hand for it.
I think this change was because BBSRC (and other councils) will be busy in July/August implementing joint back office systems for grants processing. All part of the Shared Services Centre (which I believe the Lib Dems, before the election, were keen to abolish because it allegedly costs more than it saves).
Thanks Wigner: that's useful. I know NERC had already pulled forward its deadline, so this chimes in with what you're saying. It will be interesting to see if the Lib Dems have the authority/appetite to ditch the Shared Services Centre. My thought would be that, as it's reached this stage in development, they might not think the fight is worth it.
